Arugam Bay

A world-class surfing destination on the east coast — a perfect right-hand point break (May–Oct).

About Arugam Bay

Arugam Bay is Sri Lanka's surf capital — a laid-back east-coast village with a world-class right-hand point break. From May to October the swell is reliable and the scene is buzzing, while the rest of the island is in monsoon.

Best time to visit

May to October is surf season (east-coast dry season). Outside these months the sea is rough and many places close.

Getting there

About 7 hours from Colombo by road on the east coast. The nearest railhead is Batticaloa; most visitors arrange a private transfer.
