A real day on the water with Tangalle's fishermen
This isn't a staged tourist show. You join a working Tangalle fishing crew on their traditional outrigger canoe, heading out at first light when the sea is calm and the fish are feeding.
We provide the rods, tackle, bait, water and life jackets — you bring the patience. Depending on the season you can hook trevally, barracuda, tuna and snapper, with both trolling and bottom fishing on the same trip.
Back on shore we photograph your catch, and your guesthouse cook can grill it for dinner. It's an honest, salt-air day on the Indian Ocean.

What to expect on the water
Meet at the harbour
We gather at Tangalle fishing harbour before sunrise. You'll meet your skipper, grab a life jacket, and walk out to the boat.
Out past the breakers
The outrigger pushes through the surf and out to the trolling line. Lines go in as we reach deeper water.
Troll the deep water
We troll for pelagics — tuna, barracuda and mackerel — covering ground until we find the fish.
Bottom-fish the reefs
We anchor over the reef and switch to bottom fishing for trevally, snapper and grouper.
Photos & return
We head back as the wind drops, photograph your catch at the harbour, and hand over anything you want to cook.

Out on the water
Before you cast off
Do I need any fishing experience?
Not at all. Our skippers brief you on the gear and technique, and they bait the hook and land the fish if you'd prefer. Beginners catch plenty — patience is the only real skill required.
What should I bring?
Sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and light clothing you don't mind getting salty. A light jacket for the early sunrise departure is a good idea. Bring a camera if you like; we also shoot your catch.
Can we eat what we catch?
Yes. Most guesthouses in Tangalle will grill your catch for a small fee — we'll help arrange it. We only keep what's good to eat; the rest goes back.
Is it safe for children?
Children 8 and up are welcome on the full-day and private charters with adult supervision. Life jackets are provided for everyone. Let us know the ages when you book.
What if the weather turns?
Safety first — if the sea is too rough we reschedule or refund. The call is made the evening before or at the harbour, never mid-trip.
