About Udawalawe National Park
Udawalawe National Park is Sri Lanka's elephant capital — a reservoir-fringed savannah where wild herds are near-guaranteed on every safari. It's smaller and more reliable for elephants than Yala, ideal for families.
Best time to visit
Year-round elephant sightings; November to March is greenest. The Elephant Transit Home feeding times (12:00 and 17:00) are a highlight.
Getting there
About 4 hours from Colombo. Most visitors safari from the park entrance and continue the same day to the south coast or Ella.
